World Series Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and the network’s best postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen various tongues.
